SELECTING AN ARCHITECT (continued)

Review and Evaluate
With the committee or person you selected to manage the project, review the information you have collected. Useful factors to consider include:

  • Size and amount of time the firm has been in practice.
  • Experience and past projects.
  • Cost of Services
  • Special expertise, such as experience in your type of project
  • Management ability
  • Knowledge of building codes/zoning ordinances
  • Calling client references.
  • Visiting one of the projects he/she has completed.

Making The Selection
While making your final selection, some general things to look for are:

  • Design Quality
  • Technical Competence
  • Experience
  • Cost
  • Organization

Also, look for these qualities in an architect:
Is he/she responsive to your needs? Does the architect listen carefully and seem to understand your project? Does he/she make you feel comfortable?
It is important to hire a personable architect.
